Big City, Small World.
Depending on whom you ask, Beijing is a city of almost 30 million people. So the question I keep asking myself is how could a city this big be so small?
My friend Mike sent me an email the other day asking if my sister and I would like to join him to go to a friend’s birthday party on Saturday night. I asked my sister and she said she already had a birthday party that night. The conversation went like this:
me: just sent you an email
from mike
cocktail bday party
sat.
Sabrina: cool
i thnk i am going ot this bday party with karl
is it the same one?! 3 guys.
hahahah
me: omg
same????
is it?
Sabrina: w this guy, american
me: xian bar?
Sabrina: YES
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
WIN
me: AHHHHHHH
SHUT THE HELL UP!
Second example, my closest (only?) friend from work, My Khanh, was out to dinner the other night discussing Halloween plans with her friend Rosie, and said she was thinking of doing something with me, and Rosie was like Eliza is already coming to my party that night!
Finally, I have come to realize I have basically no friends who aren’t in some way already connected to my other friends. Well, I actually thought I had one friend, Anne, whom no one else knew. I was going to introduce her to another friend Josh the other night because we were all going to the same place later in the night, and they met at an event earlier that night before I got there.
What the hell Beijing? For such a big city, why are you so small?

And how small world was it when we had dinner with four families from home all of whom just happened to be here at the same time?!
LOVE being in the Jing with you and your sister!
